The term “Weblog” was coined on 1997. At the start of blogging it was not so popular as it had many drawbacks. The initial Bloggers pointed out that everything that they see on blog is boring, longwinded, and is more like stream of consciousness thoughts vs. useful information. Early blogs were simply manually updated components of common Web sites. However, the evolution of tools facilitated the production and maintenance of Web very easily.

A blog can be private but in most cases it is for business purpose. Web logs, or blogs, offer a unique channel for developing and maintaining relationships between organizations, and publics. Corporate blogs are generally used to enhance the communication and culture in a corporation and also by marketing, branding or public relation. In other words these blogs may also termed as corporate or organizational blogs.
The genre blogs focus on a particular subject, such as political blogs, travel blogs, house blogs, fashion blogs, project blogs, education blogs, niche blogs, classical music blogs, quizzing blogs and legal blogs or dream blogs. Two common types of genre blogs are art blogs and music blogs. Blogs used for sole purpose of spamming is known as a Splog. The blog used by press, tv, etc, are called media blogs. A blog can be made with the help of devices like mobile, webcam, etc, such types of blogs are called device blogs.
